NHS Armed Forces healthcare celebrates national recognition

The NHS Armed Forces healthcare training and education programme has received national recognition after being awarded as a finalist in the education, training and development category at the Soldiering On: Armed Forces Community Awards.

The national programme was launched in November 2025 to equip busy NHS teams with specialist insight, knowledge and resources to meet the evolving needs of the Armed Forces community – including serving personnel, reservists, veterans and their families.

Soldering On recognised the programme as runners-up during its award ceremony last night, for its commitment to strengthening Armed Forces awareness and improving healthcare delivery across NHS organisations in England through structured training and education,.

Kate Davies, National Director of Armed Forces Health, said: “I’m thrilled that this flagship programme has received such well-deserved recognition. Becoming a finalist is thoroughly deserved and a wonderful reflection of the work that has gone into embedding Armed Forces awareness across the NHS.

“Positive feedback from NHS staff and strong uptake of training across trusts highlights that the programme is delivering what it aimed to do – to help ensure members of the Armed Forces community are understood and treated fairly when accessing healthcare services to provide them with the best care possible.”

The training programme is delivered nationally for NHS England by the Veterans Covenant Healthcare Alliance (VCHA) and supports NHS trusts with complying with the health requirements of the Armed Forces Covenant – a promise by the Nation that those who serve or have served, and their families, are treated fairly.
